MISSION

The European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE) was founded in 1974 under the auspices of the International Institute of Management (IIM), following an initiative undertaken by well-known industrial economist, Frederic M. Scherer, and his then junior colleague, Jürgen Müller. It has since flourished under the administration of the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM). The aim of the Association is to provide a professional society for academics and practitioners with an interest in the field of Industrial Economics. EARIE consists of its members, an Executive Committee, and two floating sub-committees (the Scientific Committee and the Local Organising Committee) that are carefully selected to manage the main event of the Asssociation, the EARIE Annual Conference.

ACTIVITIES

The EARIE Annual Conferences provide the focal point of communication for members. At these conferences held in a different European country each year, selected ongoing research work is presented and discussed. Delegates also have the opportunity to meet old friends as well as make new ones during the social activities surrounding this professional event. 1989 saw the launch of the first essay competition for young economists, awarding three scholarships to attend the next EARIE Annual Conference. In subsequent years, many more Young Economists' Essay Awards have been presented by various sponsors.

In March of 1983, the very first volume of the International Journal of Industrial Organization (IJIO) was published. The journal was launched on the initiative of several EARIE members in collaboration with the Association. The IJIO is an international venture with strong roots in Europe and Japan, but also with important connections in the USA. It aims at a full coverage of both theoretical and empirical questions within the field of Industrial Organization, broadly defined. The journal also regularly publishes special issues. In 2007, the IJIO began awarding The Paul Geroski Best Article Prize in memory of Paul Geroski (Co-Managing Editor of the IJIO, 1987-1992) who passed away in 2005. EARIE is proud of its longstanding affiliation with IJIO.

The EARIE Online Job Market (also publicly accessible via the EIASM web site and other related Job Markets) is a useful internet interface for listing job vacancies and/or soliciting employment in the field of Industrial Economics, especially for young professionals.
